X-Rings

General information
The X-ring, also known as a four-lip ring, was developed for applications in which O-rings are less suitable, such as dynamic applications.
X-rings are available in a wide range of materials and can therefore be used to seal almost all liquid and gaseous media.
The four-lip profile has numerous advantages over the O-ring, e.g.:
- no twisting in dynamic applications
- no spiral errors
- larger sealing surface
- space for lubricating film between the sealing lips
- lower contact pressure required
- double sealing function
- more favorable pressure distribution across the cross-section
- no annoying burrs on the inside or
- outer diameter, as this is located between the lips

How it works
The initial sealing effect of X-rings is created by compression in the installation space. Due to their geometry, less compression is required here than with O-rings. This has a positive effect on friction forces in dynamic applications, thereby reducing wear. The system pressure reinforces the sealing effect.

Dimensions and installation dimensions
The standard dimensions of X-rings are specified in inches, analogous to the O-ring dimensions in the AS568 standard. Other dimensions are available on request.
The current AS568 number of the O-rings is preceded by a “4” for X-rings.
Example: O-ring 15.6x1.78 = AS568 No. 016 corresponds to X-ring 15.6x1.78 = AS568 No. 4016
Since the X-ring requires less preload, different groove dimensions are recommended.
